A farewell message from Isabel, our ESC volunteer

Namaste! It’s Isabel again, for one last blog post before returning to Spain. My time as a European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps volunteer at WHR in Nepal is drawing to a close and, reflecting on the incredible journey I have had over the past six months, I cannot believe how fast time has flown by: it seems like yesterday when I landed at Tribhuvan Airport, but it is already time to go back. From the moment I arrived in Kathmandu, greeted with warm smiles and “Namaste”, I knew this experience would be life-changing.

Working with WHR has been a remarkable experience. The organization’s dedication to empowering women, particularly those affected by post-conflict issues, has deeply resonated with me. I have had the privilege of delving into projects aimed at enhancing the lives of women in Nepal and I have enjoyed being involved in meaningful work aimed at creating positive change. I have witnessed first-hand the crucial role of civil society organizations in shaping the country’s future.

But, beyond the professional growth, it’s the personal connections I’ve made that have truly enriched my experience. From forging friendships with my co-workers and other Nepali locals to bonding with fellow expats, every interaction has been a testament to the warmth and hospitality of the Nepali people. Embracing local celebrations, trying new food and exploring Nepal’s natural beauty have only deepened my love for this country.

As I prepare to bid farewell to Nepal, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to WHR for selecting me for this incredible opportunity. I am immensely proud to have been part of their initiatives and am determined to continue supporting their work in any way I can. To anyone considering a similar journey, I wholeheartedly recommend it—this experience goes beyond discovering a new country; it’s about diving into a vibrant mix of culture, tradition, and personal growth.

Thank you, Nepal and WHR, for welcoming me with open arms. I will carry the memories of this journey with me always, and I am forever grateful for the impact it has had on my life. Until we meet again, Dhanyabad!
