On the occasion of International Widows Day, WHR Nepal hosted a heartfelt program graced by Chief Guest Chiri Babu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
The event featured a welcome speech by Upasana Rana, Executive Director of WHR, and inspiring remarks from Ms. Patricia Fernández Pacheco, UN Women Country Representative; Apsara Dongol, Chairperson of SABAH Nepal; Krishna Hari Maharjan, Ward Chairperson of Lalitpur Ward-27; and Kabita Pandey, Chairperson of WHR Central Board, who delivered the thank you note.
Sharada Mishra, Chairperson of Budhanilkantha Municipality Single Women Group, recited a powerful poem dedicated to single women across the world, while Sushil Shahi of Nagarik Aawaz moved the audience with soul-touching songs. The program also featured cultural dance performances by the Sunakothi Single Women Group and stalls led by single women and female home-based workers.
The event space came alive with the “Windows to Her Stories” gallery — a moving tribute to the courage, struggles, and triumphs of single women from across Nepal. Visitors engaged deeply through health and counselling services, heartfelt messages on the Tree of Voices, and the powerful presence of women rewriting their own narratives.
