Shobha’s success story

Shobha Mahara, a resident of Dhanusha District and a single mother, faced immense hardships in her life. She got married without the approval of her family and her husband’s family, and later, she lost her husband to cancer. Compounding her challenges, both she and her son suffer from leprosy. Despite these difficulties, she found no acceptance from her late husband’s family. Following her husband’s demise, Shobha endured humiliation and mistreatment at the hands of her in-laws. Adding to her struggles, she lacked essential documents such as a citizenship certificate, birth certificates for her children, and a marriage certificate.
The intervention of Women’s Human Rights (WHR) Dhanusha brought a ray of hope to Shobha’s life. WHR Dhanusha not only ensured she received proper treatment for leprosy but also embarked on advocacy efforts to secure her basic rights. The WHR team tirelessly advocated for Shobha’s rights to obtain a citizenship certificate, birth certificates for her children, and a marriage certificate. Additionally, the team assisted her in acquiring essential materials and garnered support from local government authorities.
