South Asian Regional Workshop on “Together We Can”

The two days South Asian Regional Workshop on “Together We Can” held its 5th International conference at Kathmandu and Nuwakot in Nepal from 17th-18th July 2017. The Workshop was organized by SANWED (South Asian Network for Widows’ Empowerment in Development) in coordination with Women for Human Rights, Single Women Group (WHR), the program was chaired by Rt. Hon. Nanda Bahadur Pun, Vice President, and Government of Nepal and attended by 20 delegates specialized in the issue of Widowhood from 18 different counties.
The workshop highlighted the issues related to widows and widowhood is expected to help South Asian governments and the international community’s realized the key role of widows as valuable “social capital” in peace, development and equality also emphasized the journey of widow’s movement in Nepal and South Asia. The program consists of three sessions inauguration session, panel discussion and situational-country perspectives.
During the program 60 newly Elected Single Women (Widows) member of WHR in local level Election were facilitated and Ms. Lily Thapa- Founder President of WHR was honored with Dayawati Modi Stree Shakti Samman from Stree Shakti India
