What We Do

The Strategic Approach of WHR

WHR has been a pioneer in addressing single women’s issues and envisions changing traditional stereotypes and mindsets that keep single women from participating and accessing resources. We strive to change discriminatory policies to give women their rights and show that they are valuable social capital.
WHR’s strategic plan (2009-2013) focuses on five pillars.

Sustainable Peace For Human Rights And Justice (Pillar III)

Strong advocacy campaign and lobbying to address this human rights issue, to enhance the capacity of single women groups and networks in peace building and transitional justice, and to help develop their confidence and self esteem.

Raahat (Pillar III)

Raahat which means Relief in Nepali aims to empower and reintegrate conflict affected women (CAW), single women and their family from traumatic experiences back into the society. Raahat provides various services like psycho-social counseling, legal counseling, scholarship, skill development training and micro credit loans for income generating activities.

So far Raahat has provided its services to over 1500 conflict effected single women.

Raahat in Action

-Conflict affected women have been organized in groups and are able to raise their concern.
– Vulnerable conflict affected women have been protected from being involved in informal sectors.
– Legal awareness among conflict affected women has increased and have used legal services.

– Conflict affected women have been economically independent through income generating skills.

Most importantly Raahat facilitates between concerned Ministries of Nepal Government and the single women of conflict victims on receiving compensation, pension and other relevant services.

Raahat is in a network of Gender and Transitional Justice in Nepal organized by UN Women, ICTJ and other local NGOs which exchange, work together for women’s consultation including gender perspectives of justice in transitional phase of Nepal.

Raahat has developed a legal toolkit which has detail information about conflict affected women, initiations from the government agencies for CAW, Transitional Justice, list of international agencies supporting and legal counseling conflict affected and displaced women, measures to be taken in case of violence and justice, national and International mechanisms and instruments for CAW and about the activities that Raahat has been doing to mitigate and provide legal services to the CAW.

Transnational Justice has been formed under WHR and it covers 10 districts.

Any displaced or conflict affected women may contact us freely from Sunday to Friday, between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for the services through Raahat.
