One of the mobiles donated by Mr. Davide Parise of Incontro fra i Popoli (IFP) was received by Ms. Leela Bhujle. She was so excited to own a mobile phone! She said she will use it to keep contact of everyone in case of emergencies.
“I will now be able to contact anyone when I have problems or if I am in need.”
Leela, young single woman and mother of two daughters, was living on the street after the death of her husband. Her husband died at the age of 35 from jaundice. They were living in a small rented room. Though life was tough, Leela had support from her husband. After his death, she had no financial support neither an education to help her get a job. She and her daughters became homeless and Leela turned to begging in order to survive.
During this low period, Leela was blessed when she came across a social worker who promised to provide help. Leela began to work as a maid in other houses to earn a living. Despite this, Leela could still not fulfill even the basic needs of her daughters. The same social worker introduced Leela to WHR, single women group. After learning about her problems and background, WHR offered her a job at Chhahari Services. Leela has now been working in this organization for three years and has received counseling to help build up her self confidence. Her daughters have also received scholarships support form Opportunity Fund.
